GENDER: Female
AGE: 27
BIRTH DATE: January 21, 1987
ORIENTATION:
Technically, Hazel is as straight as they come with preferences to men. However, there is a wilder, more self-destructive personality present that sometimes doesn't truly care what the gender of the other person is.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Currently single
FAMILY STATUS:
Gareth Ramsey, Hazel's father, died when she was at a ripe age of 16 years old. His cause of death was determined to be the result of years of suffering with the neurodegenerative disorder known as Parkinson's Disease, which saw a strong, healthy man wither away before her very eyes. With the Parkinson's came the classical signs of Alzheimer's Disease, another neurodegenerative disorder commonly associated with old age; toward the end of his years, there was no doubt that death was a mercy-giving. However, with his death, her mother, Miranda Ramsey, was thrown into complete disarray. She barely ate, she barely moved from her bed; despair consumed her like a raging fire, pulling her deeper and deeper into depression. With that came the start of her mother's alcoholism and the neglect of both Hazel and her younger brother, Stephen Ramsey. From that, Hazel had to adopt additional part time jobs on top of maintaining her studies with grades good enough to get her into medical school with a full scholarship.
To this day, and to her knowledge, her mother remains alive. Her brother is also alive; however, he has been diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's Disease.
IS THE CHARACTER IN A GANG/LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY/CITIZEN?
Citizen
STATE YOUR INDUSTRY AND OCCUPATION:
Graduating from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine with a distinction, Ramsey immediately excelled in the working world, using the experience of her father's death as a motivating factor for her work and other research performed on the sides. Her first true moment to shine was when she was accepted for the prestigious and competitive internship at the Mayo Clinic, Minnesota. Here, she demonstrated a mind like never seen before, with a knack for solving "puzzles" presented to her in the form of medical mysteries. With that, she was referred to a position in a teaching hospital where she was to work beneath a diagnostician known for his addiction to certain medications and lack of bed-side manner.
She soon became a Board certified diagnostician with a double specialization in infectious disease and neurology.
With her arrival on the islands, Dr. Ramsey has taken up a position in the local teach hospital on the island of Oahu where she continues serving as a diagnostician, in the brand-new diagnostics department and performing her own research on the side lines.
PERSONALITY:
On the cusp of the zodiac signs, Capricorn and Aquarius, Hazel demonstrates both of their personality groups meshed together into one bundle of mystery. She remains guarded against other people, other colleagues whom she sees on a daily basis, refusing to provide them with too many details of her private life. She prefers to keep her secrets private and to herself, leading to the conclusion that she is an extreme introvert that has developed a well-atoned mask to hide her emotions. This may often cause her to appear emotionally detached and cold as stone. Albeit, beneath the stoic unemotional facade, Hazel will make for a kind hearted friend that will bend the rules to help out a true, genuine friend. Her blatant words may often come across as harsh and spiteful; however, further analysis will often reveal a strange sense of motivation behind them, inspiring an individual to get back up on their feet.
River is a level-headed individual who demonstrates a subtle enthusiasm toward her work; she believes that medicine is the only true calling she has in life, the only thing that defines her from the rest of the mindless sheep left to wander the streets. With this level of dedication to her career, Hazel has excelled at almost everything she has set her mind to proving, not only her perseverance, but also the ambition and resourcefulness she shares with her job. Unlike other doctors, Hazel has an uncanny ability to see beyond the typical stereotypes that others may associate with certain patients, especially the drug-users. This may be attributed to her own drug addiction history in the past, as well as the deterioration of her family due to the vile substances. This brings about her "live and let live" policy where everyone is free to be themselves and are entitled to their own opinions.
Turning more toward the Aquarius side, River is an intellectually, unconventional independent, free spirited visionary whom will flee at any sign of restriction or limitation. She is extremely observant, and is able to gather information with an objective manner due to the fact that she is able to regulate her emotions and detach them when it comes down to discovering the truth. In the end, the truth is essential. It begins with the lies. And it is through these lies that Hazel is able to glimpse. Her ability to remove emotion from a situation may often come across as shocking or painful for the individual under scrutiny, as they see it as a blatant disregard for their feelings; albeit, it should be known that no intended harm is ever meant in these cases. With this lack of bias, Hazel is able to assert herself mentally forward, gaining wisdom beyond her years in her occupation. She cares little for others' opinions, disregarding them on most occasions.
She possesses a strong sense of wit and may be considered as verbally skilled, enhancing her skills of manipulation to justify anything she has done or said. She interacts with others based on observations of them, learning how to associate with them. She is intellectually driven instead of emotionally driven, allowing logic and facts to override emotions and "trust".
In short, Hazel may be described as a living, breathing, walking paradox. She prefers to be alone, yet, can be a social butterfly if the situation demands it of her. She has a mild, subtle hint of compassion, yet should a dull-minded incompetent individual be presented to her, there is no doubt she will pick at them like an annoying scab. This is simply because they're an easy target for a verbal assault.

CHARACTER IMAGE(S):
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Hazel is what many would call an attractive young woman, and is, perhaps, one of the more prettier doctors on the hospital staff. She has long flowing, wavy brown locks that shimmer with a gorgeous, warm red undertone in the sun, so that is appears almost chestnut in color. She wears her hair in a variety of fashions, due to the ease it is to work with, ranging from a full fringe that hangs over her forehead, to straightened hair that slips down her back, to the more official "tied up and professional" look. However, either way, her hair always looks good, and will always be well-taken care of for that is something that she takes a vast amount of pride in.
In terms of her physique, Hazel is a moderate height and is quite slender, although not absurdly skinny. She seems to be in the right place for her age. With that, she has very few blemishes on her skin, with the exception of one tattoo inked onto her lower back in a place not easily seen. Her ears are pierced, although she rarely wears any earrings.
However, her most defining feature is most probably her eyes; Hazel possesses gorgeous eyes that are of an unusual shape that complements her face and also the manner in which she wears her eye makeup perfectly.
UNIQUE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Hazel's intelligence and ability to link real life with cases is perhaps her far superior quality, and her assurance of a job, since there are few that seem to be able to solve the mystery with such little information. She looks at the impossible, rather than casual symptoms that many doctors may often associate with mediocre diseases. The weirder and wackier, the more probable, in her books; however, she also knows that sometimes the simplest explanation is often the most correct. And with these contradictions, she is able to find the line between the two, knowing where to cross and when.
Apart from this, Hazel is also learned in many languages ranging from Portuguese to Spanish, and also has the innate ability to see underlying faces that may be victims of drug abuse and alcohol abuse. She is also exceptionally good at reading people's emotions by watching their body language and observing facial manipulators.
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:
+ Her wit
+ Her intelligence
+ Her inventive, creative mind that looks to expand on ideas and logic
+ Her originality
+ Her ambition
+ Her resourcefulness
+ Her street smarts
- Her stubbornness
- Her lack of emotional guidance
- Her sarcasm
- Her lack of trust in others
- Her aloofness and mysteriousness
- Her rebellious, self-destructive nature
- Her need to pick apart and solve every puzzle presented to her, no matter the consequences
- Her insecurities
WEAPONS:
Hazel has no need for any weapons since she has nothing to do with the street "thug" life, nor any job that may require her carrying around a handgun of sorts. Her main weapon, as many might call it that, is the large needle she often sticks into her patients. On a more serious note, Hazel is known to carry around a stun gun in her purse for those lonely walks home late at night, as well as a bottle of pepper spray. A girl can never be too careful.
BACKGROUND HISTORY:
To put it simply, Hazel Ramsey lived a normal life as a kid. She played with the other children, she rolled around in the dirt with her brother, and most importantly, she had parents who actually gave a damn about her, unlike some of the other sad cases she's had to deal with now in her adult years. Everything was dandy, everything was perfect until the day that her father was diagnosed with an incurable neurodegenerative disorder. For the first few years of her life, nothing really changed; but as soon as she started to enter her prepubescent years, a definite decline was being noted in the way her father spoke and the manner in which he moved. He was no longer able to pick her up and swing her around like he used to; he grew tired and weak, involuntary movements made it hard for him to accomplish most simple tasks. And soon enough, he wasn't able to fight anymore. Her mother, during all of this, remained close by his side. She cared for him, she helped him when he needed it most; but eventually, she started to grow tired as well. She became more flustered, more irritable. Even preparing dinner became a fight. And when Gareth Ramsey was on his last few legs, Miranda kind of fell between the cracks. She started drinking heavily, crying herself to sleep at night; this only got worse when her father finally died. When Gareth Ramsey no longer felt breath in his body. Stephen and Hazel were forgotten, like old toys that had grown dirty and out-of-date. Every evening she was intoxicated, whether it be with a bottle in hand at home or out in some dusty old pub with God knows how many men. Miranda Ramsey began to plummet into an eternal misery; on the few days that she remained sober, she was either in a slump on the bed not wanting to move or sleep. When confronted about her problem, her simple response was: "It dulls the pain." There was no talking her out of it, and so, Hazel was forced to grow up a bit too quickly in order to make sure that there was food on the table and that the bills were being paid. She adopted multiple part-time jobs, ranging from a cashier at the local convenient store, to a waitress at one of the diners, on top of all her school work in her last year of school. How she managed to maintain her grades, was beyond her, and the moment where she was accepted into medical school with a full scholarship, she took it immediately, thinking past everyone's needs and wants for a change, and focusing on herself.
Welcome Dr. Ramsey, it's wonderful to have you with us. Please, take a seat, and then we can begin with your interview. Comfortable? Right. First of all, I see you've got an impressive résumé from Johns Hopkins Medical School. Would you mind telling us a bit about your time there? What were your highs, and what were your lows?
I really hate questions like this. Can't they just get to the more important things?
Well, it was a great experience, I can't deny that. I was so excited when I had heard I'd gotten in, I mean, it was a step in the right direction, a step that I've been looking to take ever since I was a little girl. But I digress. I suppose the highs and lows were much like anyone at the school; it was hard, I must admit, not having a father around to support me, and a mother who half-arsed cared about things other than her own misery. I suppose you could call those my "lows" but in actuality, I haven't much to say. I did what I did, I worked efficiently when I needed to; I blew all the competition out of the water, and well, some of the lecturers grew to dislike me because of my "intellect", although they would never admit it.
You said that your father wasn't around? May I ask what happened?
He died. Plain and simple. And no it wasn't some heroic feat that you would expect on a cop show, although that would have been pretty epic. It was more the result of his Parksinson's Disease. You see, he'd been living with it for such a long time, and while the disease itself didn't kill him, the other ailments that kind of came along and took over did. Doesn't help that it seems to run in the family either, does it?
What do you mean by that?
Well my brother was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's Disease a few months ago. He's handling everything pretty well, but I know he's scared. I keep in touch with him as much as I possibly can; but I can tell he's not who he used to be. But, you're not hiring me for my little sob story are you? You want my brain, and I'm giving it to you. On a silver platter. So can we cut it with the sob stories and move on to the more medically relevant side of things?
In truth, I'm worried about him. Stephen is still my younger brother, he is still my blood. And I'll be damned if I let him suffer as dad did; there's a reason why I chose this life, a reason why I decided to get my butt into the world of neurology. If I can't personally beat this disease, I'll help them fight it. Everyone has a reason for what they do. Although I may choose to keep my locked away in a secret box for none to witness, it doesn't mean I don't care.
