notable achievements/rap sheet
There's nothing of relevance in her past that will show up on a background check, good or bad. She's done everything she can to remain under the radar.

skills She can do some pretty impressive smoke tricks. Miriam is unique only in that she has an inherent ability to correctly predict another person's future, and can give them accurate advice on what decision to make when it comes to certain situations. But, due to the perceived falseness of her profession, not many people come to her with serious intents or take her advice to heart. Still, she is extremely knowledgeable about her craft. Miriam can read Tarot cards, runic stones, palms, crystals; she even knows some basic hypnotizing techniques. She'd be useful if someone knows what to ask.
loves
She loves her son, Hugo, most of all. He's her pride and joy in this world. But there are also a few other things she enjoys as well; like sun tanning, smoking green, and helping others with her skills. And being that she's still just a young twenty-something, Miiriam loves the night life and to feel the rush of taking risks (so long as Hugo isn't involved)
loathes
Her ex-husband, Markus, and his stupid gang. There's not much Miriam detests, but it is certain that if given the chance, she'd gouge his eyes out.
quote
“Not everything we experience can be explained by logic or science.”

Since the days she began to walk and talk, Miriam has always been scatter-brained, flighty, and strangely optimistic. No matter how uncertain a situation might end up, she's always had a sixth-sense that gave her confidence in whatever she decided up. She was confident, peaceful, and full of ideals. As she grew up, family and friends often came to her for words of encouragement, or for advice; it always seemed that if she felt things would go well, it usually did! Chalk it up to good intuition, good judgement, or a keen ability for prediction; but she definitely had a knack for guessing correctly. This caused Miriam to do well in school, and in social situations in general. She blossomed into a bright, cheerful young woman and was greatly loved.
Now, as a 24 year old living in a trailer, Miriam isn't quite as innocent as she once was. She still possesses a strange ability for prediction and intuition, but she's lost the ability to make good judgement for her own life. Miriam is a little awkward now, and doesn't feel well unless she takes a hit from her bong every morning, noon, and night. She's got an addictive personality and doesn't know when to shut up or stay quiet. This has gotten her into some pretty big trouble, hence why she lives on the outskirts of society and doesn't take the time to make meaningful connections; it always ends badly for her. She went from being a very lucky girl to a very unlucky woman. Still, she has a decent sense of humor and a fun, wild streak. She's not afraid to be reckless, despite being so unlucky.
Miriam just wants to have a prosperous life, to have someone important in her life and be important to someone else. She has aspirations for herself, but there is something unknown standing in her way.

History
Miriam was born in Berlin, Germany to a middle-class family, the VonShafts. Her father was a dentist, mom a school nurse; typical German family. Her sister, Adelle, was four years older and quite mean when Miriam came around. But five years later, when Gerhard was born, they joined forces and made his life a living hell while also dotting upon him as if he was a doll to be played with. Every summer they went camping, and every winter they cut their own Christmas tree. Each child was spectacular in their own way; Adelle was a talented dancer while Gerhard excelled at science. And little Miriam, was content having her own peculiar abilities. She had the innate skill of prediction, though it only started out at being really good at the guessing game. She always one at eye-spy, what's behind my back, and what should i do next? She did well at school, despite doing very little studying at home. She grew up with a lot of friends, because she was always able to guess the best course of action with each person and each situation. She had no idea that her predictions were her talent, nor did anyone think much of it.
The summer that Miriam turned 11, friends and family were regularly going to her for advice. It wasn't grand advice, more like 'will Hans like it if I wear my hair this way?' or 'Will i win first place if i enter this science project?' but each of her predictions were correct. It became a popular discussion topic when guests came over for dinner, it was a novelty, and it gave Miriam a sense of importance. Things were going well for the VonShaft's, on the surface. Little did any of them know that Louise VonShaft had a streak of infidelity on the side. She was a talented actress, hiding her side affairs easily, but eventually grew too dangerous and seeped into her family's life.
It was a thursday evening, and the family was seated around the dinner table with a lovely meal served onto their plates. Adelle and Gerhard spoke animatedly about their day at school (Adelle was quite the actress like her mother because she had been hiding a pregnancy for three months), and Heinrich listened with a happy heart. He looked over at his wife, who should have been beaming as well, but she seemed distracted and closed off. She barely touched her food, didn't respond to her children's inquiries, and had a gloomy look to her. Just as he reached across to console her, there was a knock at the door. Chatter halted, attentions turned to the door, and Heinrich went to answer it. When he greeted the stranger, the reply was sudden and painful. A swift bullet to the center of the forehead felled the proud dentist, and screams of terror erupted from the two children and Louise. The man at the door, who was now passing through the living room towards the dining room, was her lover; infuriated that she dared cut him out of her life.

Louise scrambled to cover her children, but was too late as she watched her son's body jerk unnaturally as a bullet embedded itself in his back. Instantly paralyzed, he hit the ground hard and died slowly as his lungs stopped pushing oxygen through his body. Adelle hesitated only a moment before racing for the kitchen, but was stopped when she felt a pain rip through her stomach. Louise screamed as Adelle staggered into the kitchen, leaving a bloody trickle in her path. Eventually, the young teenager crumbled to the floor and listened to her mother crying and begging for her life, only to be cut short by a final bullet to the chest. Four people died in the house that night, and there would have been a fifth if Miriam hadn't experienced a terrible foreboding feeling earlier that day. She had no idea her family would have been in danger or that she'd suddenly become an orphan by staying at a friend's house for dinner, but that was what she came home to.
After having to go through a funeral for her entire family, having her life uprooted and being sent to America; Miriam lost all ability to discern what choices in life were best for herself. From the age of 12 to 18 she lived with a distant relative on her fathers side, in California, but ceased being the bright, successful, dotted upon girl she once was. Her grades plummeted, school peers picked on the girl with the funny accent, and unluck seemed to plague her. Every turn she took seemed to be the wrong one. Eventually, as she got older, Miriam learned how to navigate this unlucky life and stopped worrying. She found her interests in physic readings and fortune telling grow, and eventually Miriam turned it into a profit. After she became a legal adult, Miriam joined a traveling band of like-minded friends, people who were as fond of pot and partying as she was, and traveled across the west coast enjoying their youth. Miriam shared her talents of prediction with all who could pay, and brought great prosperity to those who came to her; but it seemed she never could find her own success. She is a wanderer, never putting roots anywhere, and lives from good time to good time. She enjoys parties and clubs, flirting and fucking, and leaving a string of broken hearts (at least she tells herself they are sad to see her go) in her wake.

Miriam managed to save up enough money to get herself and her stuff on a plane to Hawaii. Settling in a dirty old RV on the beach, she works her predictive magic from her home, or on the street. It was at this point in her life that she came to know a man by the name of James. By a series of odd events, they came to rely on each other for help, she helped him with his job and he kept her safe when dangerous people started to take interest. But, when feelings became involved on her part, Miriam decided enough was enough and she suddenly disappeared without a trace. She fled back to Germany, hoping that reconnecting with her roots would do her some good; only it was the exact opposite. Almost immediately, she fell in with a bad crowd. A handsome young man by the name of Markus took a liking to her, and Miriam quickly fell for his rugged good looks and charm. He was debonair and suave, and lavished her with fine things and fed her expensive tastes; but it didn't get serious until he discovered her useful trick. See, Markus was a drug lord with ties to powerful figures in politics in Europe. He had influence over many people, and soon began using Miriam's ability to put people he wanted into power and to get rid of those he didn't like. She didn't like it at first, but had soon become addicted to his strain of drugs that quickly made her lose sight of herself. While in a drug induced haze, Miriam and Markus were wed and she became his unwilling wife. If she ever acted up or was insubordinate, Markus was quick to dole out physical punishment. Miriam became accustom to being slapped and pushed around, being told to shut up, and forced to do sexual acts upon him and his friends. She was powerless to stop it.
That is, until the day she discovered her period was late. It was bound to happen, an unplanned pregnancy, but Miriam would be damned if her child was brought up in such a world. Markus was over the moon when he discovered Miriam was carrying his child; and she used that against him. It all came down to the moment when she held a razor sharp knife to her rounded belly with Markus watching her with desperate eyes. Her plan was to either run away and never be found, or to kill herself and her child before Markus could use either of them again. Thankfully, he relented and allowed Miriam to flee the country, but she never heard the vow he made to find them again. So, Miriam returned to California to be with her family so that she could deliver her child in a safe and supportive environment. They helped her get back on her feet for a few years as Hugo grew up into a sweet little two year old and she could save up some money. But, like before, she knew that staying put was not an option and made the choice to return to Hawaii where her life had been the most fulfilling. Only this time, she has some money of her own and a two year old son under her arm. She hopes to save up enough money one day to have her own storefront. Her other goal is to maybe finally find a relationship, not necessarily romantic, that makes her feel important again.
