Personality:
Horatio's personality has both positive and negative aspects, which make it difficult to sum up his personality in a short phrase. This comes from with people he comes in contact with either really like him or really hate him. He has a rather emotionally withdrawn personality and dispite the odd chucle and smile here and there, acts rather dispassionate, unless empathizing with victims or his team and showing compassion to the same. This makes is hard to tell what he's thinking.
Horatio is also gifted at getting information out of children; when speaking to a child, he speaks softly and cocks his head (in his usual manner) allowing him to maintain eye contact with the child without making them feel guilty or upsetting them. While he usually has a pretty intense demeanor, he does have a softer side, which usually doesnt show until a case is solved and things are quieter. He is especially soft towards children often acting as a "father figure." In addition, he frequently tries his best to give victims a "second chance", in the event they have suffered some sort of misfortune; even attempting to bend the rules, if it would be for their benefit. He also hardly displays a personal sense of humor. However, there have been instances when flashes of his apparently short and violent temper have come through, such as when he found out about his brother's illegitimate daughter, suggesting that her sterile attitude is the result of harsh self-control. This goes along with his overall lack of sense of humor, and very disciplined, approach to solving cases. In addition, he occasionally uses duress or intimidation to extract information from suspects he's interrogating.
Physical Description:
Horatio has red hair and blue eyes. (His red hair is his signature for being a Caine. His brother had it too.) He stands 6'0 at 160 lbs. He has very light freckles on his face, but as he's gotten older, they're almost not noticable at all. For being 40, Horatio is in good shape. He has to be. He was a police officer in Miami and he was always on the go. He tends to dress in either in something similar to a suit or casual depending on what he's doing.

Unique Skills and Abilities:
- Bomb Squad Training
- Police Training
- CSI Training
Caine appears to have a good sense for how to communicate with children and adults alike, who have experienced traumatic ordeals, obtaining information from them quickly and gently. He obtained a degree in Chemistry and formerly worked as an explosives expert. Along with this, he is an exceptionally skilled and accurate marksman. He does not hesitate to use deadly force when necessary. He is also fluent in Spanish, knows French and a fast driver when it comes to arriving at crime scenes or emergencies.
Strengths and Weaknesses: - Focuses on the job at hand and works it until the end
- Always tries to comfort the families that are grieving loved ones. (Mostly because he can empathize since losing his brother)
- Being a leader
- Sometimes, he lets his heart run things instead of his head
- Can seem detached from others (when he's really not)
- Silently, still mourns his younger brother Raymond.
Weapons:
Horatio has complete police training. He can pretty well use anything given to him.
But you'll usually find a typical police firearm on him. Actually, 2. One on his hip, his backup on his ankle.
Background History:
As a child, Horatio was a victim of domestic violence (his mother was killed by his father, and he ended up killing the man in a failed attempt to save her), which accounts to his extreme reations in abuse and domestic violence cases. Caine then worked in NYC as a detective with the NYPD. In late 1996, he arrived in Florida, he joined the MDPD as a homicide detective but later transferred to the bomb squad, where he was mentored by Al Humphries, an older cop whom Caine highly respected and considered a good friend. Sometime later, Horatio moved to the Crime Lab, accepting the promotion to Lieutenant. when veteran CSI Megan Donner went on personal leave following the death of her husband, Horatio became the permanent head of the lab.
Due to the issues from IAB, Horatio was "recommended" that he leave Miami for a new start. This meant leaving his family and his team behind. But he wasnt given the choice. After he had gotten Rick Stetler arrested (due to things in the past between them), Stetler made sure he left enough evidence to set up Horatio in a very bad spot. Well, thanks for Horatio's spotless reputation, they didnt believe Stetler even with all the evidence, which turned out to be fabricated. But the higher ups were not going to take chances anymore. Horatio was being sent to Hawaii to make a new life for himself. What he did with it was going to be his choice, but he was to make the most of it. But of course, he was allowed to visit Miami to see family. Just not stay.
